Is Utility Warehouse Good?
The answer to this depends on your circumstances versus your expectations. Whilst I can’t comment much on your current personal situation, I can hopefully use this post to help with the latter.
Varying quotes – How do circumstances affect Utility Warehouse quotes?
In short, UW prefer to acquire home owners as customers. The reason for this is that, in their eyes, you’re more likely to remain a customer for many years – saving them marketing costs in the long run. Compare this to tenants who may only be on short term letting contracts, and you can understand the cycle of potential cost implications that could arise for the company. That’s not to say it isn’t worth switching if you rent – you may just consider switching more than you had intended to in order to achieve a ‘worthwhile’ saving. They do offer everything from gas & electric to sim cards & home insurance. (And without sounding like Martin Lewis, I would say it’s always worth looking into. As consumers, we should allocate time to reviewing / seeking new quotes for all our utilities once a year – otherwise companies get greedy…)
Best 2019 Internet Provider?
Irrespective of who provides your internet, the physical location of your home is what determines how good your connectivity is likely to be. If you have Virgin Fibre Optic laid down in your area, then Virgin Fibre Optic will categorically be your best choice – if higher speed internet is an absolute requirement of yours. If, however, you don’t have a household full of online gamers, or you reckon you can survive with a standard connection, then it may not matter which provider you go for. All other options (apart from Fibre Optic) come through the same line underneath the tarmac. Now it is possible, and common, to upgrade your router to support the strength / reach of your wifi but, generally speaking, the level of connectivity is pre-determined and out of your control.
By switching your broadband to Utility Warehouse, the price per unit for your gas / electric is reduced though…
What’s the Utility Warehouse Cashback Card?
This is a pre-pay card that can reduce your monthly bill: the more you use it in shops & restaurants, the more money gets taken off your bill. Discounts can’t appear in even the best utility quotes you seek online because the discounts will obviously depend on how much you personally spend on the card – and whether or not you even use it. I suggest focusing on the quotes first, then read about / consider the card. I’d absolutely recommend capitalising on it either in the run up to Christmas or in the run up to a holiday: Transfer the amount you know you are likely to spend on these occasions and use it in places like Boots, Sainsbury’s and Virgin Holidays… You get up to 10% cashback just for spending what you would be spending there anyway!? If you’re savvy, and spend say £500 over each of the two months leading up to Christmas (across any of the hundreds of listed outlets), then in December and January you could see £50 deducted from both your bills. Fancy that!? All for the £1 a month that it costs to sign up.
Remember: Don’t ever switch utilities or accept contracts blindly or you may get stung with cancellation charges later down the line. Let’s be honest, most, if not all providers want us to stay for as long as possible. Some tie us into contracts, others commit to providing the best customer service and hope you’ll never want to leave. If you’re thinking about switching to UW (or to any provider for that matter) check the minimum terms for each element that you’re considering – and question whether they’re realistic should your circumstances change.
Utility Warehouse LED Bulb Offer.
UW currently have an offer of providing free LED bulbs for every room in your house for the rest of your life – on the basis that you match certain criteria like switching a big chunk of your utilities to them. This is genuinely a good deal as it reduces your electricity usage and means you’ll never need to pay for a bulb again (so long as you remain a customer). The main set back arises when a customer cancels a service within two years of the bulbs being fitted. They breakdown the fees that’ll be incurred should you cancel (this varies depending on the amount of bulbs – and the length of time you remained with them). At the time of publication, after two years, you’re free to move elsewhere again without incurring this charge – although you’ll obviously not be able to claim new bulbs when the current stock run out. (To be fair, it isn’t a large fee at all but, when you ditch a utility provider, it can always feel like a slap in the face when you get an ‘extra’ bill at the end – even if only for £50)
Best complaints about Utility Warehouse
If you switch to UW, but have the mindset where you want to prove a point, you’ll most certainly be able to find a reason to complain. But then, isn’t this the case with life? Here are some potential eventualities; actual true stories from my side:
- You didn’t realise how bad the internet was in your area so you cancel everything – and get stung with the fee for the ‘FREE?!?!’ LED bulbs…
- You split up with the person who introduced you – and start hating on UW because it’s a constant reminder of said ex…
- You’re left waiting on the cancellation line for ten minutes? Shocker.
Help a Back Packing Amigo
In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m technically a ‘partner’ for Utility Warehouse and have been promoting them for three years now. I refuse to pressure people though & certainly hate putting people on the spot so, instead, my unique link is provided at the bottom of this post for people to acquire quotes independently (their company position is for us to get you around the kitchen table one on one…)
I’ll most likely receive a commission from you signing via my link. You won’t get it cheaper by Googling the Utility Warehouse website without using my URL. The bonus I receive goes much further given I now live in Thailand. If you’re preparing to move into a new home and are seeking the best deals, and consequently sign up to everything through this one unique link, then the money that I receive would pay my rent, water bill, electric bill and mobile phone bill for a whole month out here – and leave me with change to do a monthly food shop. It really does go that far for me. Hopefully, the savings you receive on your end would make the time you spend looking into this worthwhile for you as well.
I hope my honesty in this post will be appreciated and received well? If you’ve read this far, and you want to get a quote, click here or copy and paste the URL below into a new tab. If you don’t go through with a booking today, but decide to return another time, please return to this Global Amigo webpage and click through the link. Otherwise, their website (conveniently) forgets that you came through me.
nb. When you load the site, select ‘Not with a Partner’ (if I am not physically sat beside you)
Thanks in advance.
